Mood Stabilizers
So despite lacking an absolute diagnosis mostly because mental health services are as sorely lacking here as our physical health services, I am of the belief that I am either bipolar II or at the very least cyclothymic. So now I am seeking some help but I don’t want to jump on the chemical band wagon just yet. I’ve researched 5-HTP, St. John’s Wort, and Omega 3s. 5-HTP has some sketchy anecdotes and the science is lacking. Also not recommended for pregnancy and nursing, both of which I’m doing. St. John’s Wort has the same side effects as chem anti-depressants which for bipolar could push into mania. I’m trying the Omega 3s in the form of fish oil capsules which according to both anecdotes and preliminary studies appears to work as well as lithium in some cases and to compliment the lithium in others. I’m hoping it will help stabilize my moods and if it works bonus because it will not adversely effect my fetus or my nursling. Cross your fingers for me dear reader.

You could always look into lemon balm and lavender as well as St. John’s Wort. An oil infusion might be better than the dried SJW herb because it does lose a lot of it’s active constituents sooner than later. If it’s not fresh dried herb, I’m not sure you can expect much?
I know for me, nourishing my liver helps give me more energy and feel more consistently better. Herb teas that I make for myself include burdock root, yarrow, nettle, marshmallow root, dandelion root and leaf… I think most, if not all of these are fine and even great for you during pregnancy. I’ll sometimes add fresh peppermint leaves and make the tea with not fully boiled water. Too hot may kill the medicinal properties.
I hope you find some relief.

I have been a long time suffer of panic attacks as well as I have a freak of flying which really interferes with my families vacationing schedule. I read up on “kiwi drug” about 5-htp and I was wondering if any of you have tried it out before? I would love to find something that is cheaper and affective
